Olive oil for buffing surfaces
Turns out you can also use olive oil to clean the house. Put olive oil on a soft clean cloth and rub it in pans, pots, appliances and surfaces in circular motion to remove dirty spots.
Lime or lemon to clean and deodorize garbage disposal
It’s important to keep garbage disposal clean and clog-free. You can do this by cutting lemon or lime into quarters. Then while keeping the water running, put the sliced pieces into the disposal.
Vodka for removing carpet stains
Blot the stain and then put clear vodka or even white wine on it.
Shaving cream for water stains
All you have to do is apply shaving cream on the area with water stains and let it sit for 15 minutes. Wipe off.
Baking soda + vinegar for cleaning bathtubs
Mix a cup of vinegar and ½ cup baking soda with hot water. Then pour the mixture into an empty tub. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Fill about a quarter of the tub with hot water and let it sit for another 10 minutes. Drain and rinse thoroughly.
Baking soda + vinegar for cleaning toilets
Using the same ratio as above, pour the mixture into your toilet bowl and let it sit for 10 minutes. Flush.
Essential oils, baking soda and dish soap for sparkling sinks and tubs
Mix a few drops of basil and lemon essential oils, dish soap and a cup of baking soda to create a cleaning paste. Sponge it on the bathtub and sink surfaces for 10 minutes. Rinse with water.
Microwave to clean damp sponges.
Microwave for 2 minutes a damp cloth or sponge to kill bacteria.
White vinegar and distilled water for cleaning glassware, windows, and mirrors.
Make your own glass cleaner by mixing white vinegar and distilled water.
Baking soda for stovetops.
Baking soda is a favorite ingredient used in cleaning stovetops. Simply sprinkle it over your stove top and add a few drops of water. Let it sit for an hour and wipe off.
Rubber gloves to remove pet hair.
If you have pets at home, a vacuum cleaner may not completely remove all their hair/fur. Use a pair of rubber gloves by rubbing them down areas that have pet hair. Rinse the gloves with water.
Vinegar and essential oils to remove odor from upholstery.
Furniture is often the source of persistent odors in the home. You can get rid of the smell in your upholstery by creating a mixture of essential oils and vinegar and spray it onto your furniture. When it dries, you can vacuum it.
Baking soda and vinegar to clean mattresses.
Beddings are washed regularly, but it’s not the same for our mattress. You can keep it clean and free from dead skin cells and dust mites by spraying it with vinegar all over and then sprinkling the top with baking soda. Let it sit for 2 hours and then vacuum.
Old (clean) socks to dust window blinds.
“Blinds can sometimes be a hassle to clean. You can make it less of a burden by mixing vinegar and water, and soaking a clean sock into it. Wipe the blinds with the damp sock to remove the dirt and dust.
